It has been some time since I felt it necessary to say anything about my job.  However this is something that i need to address at this time.  My work associates range in ages and this diversity helps our department funtion in an ackward yet somewhat effective way.   One coworker who is very verbal about everything that goes wrong.  You know when she is not well because she is quiet and there are times when she is very focus on what she is doing and if that concentration is broken so is her silence.  For the most part this does not bother me except when she takes me out of my zone and then my work rhythm is interrupted.   I am sure i am guilty of doing the same to her i think everyone does.  Then there is next coworker a beautiful young lady that gives the impression of being younger than she actually is and so I have a tendency to feel like  need  to protect her.  That is something I had to stop doing it was not needed and i ho...

Why …….did I think that I should upgrade my web browser to IE8 when IE7 was working just fine. After the install was done I could not access the internet with IE8 so I decided to uninstall it which should have been easy but IE8 or IE7 is part of the operating system……….. internet browers MIA! There are a lot of things that just make me want to slap the eyebrows off someone face. The number one thing that make we feel that way is when someone makes up in their mind that I am a slacker. There is a new employee in our department and she has no idea of what each person does in the department. That is not the correct way to explain it. She knows the job description and has made it up in her mind that she will be a widget processor. She was trained what is to be done for scheduling but she has decided that she will do just one function of that job and leave the rest to everyone else. Everyone else in her mind is me. She had really decided that anything that she does not want to so I should do. She mistakes my usual mild manner to mean and that she can delegate what she does not want to do to me. She will ask for help on something and then give it to me like I am to take it and complete it. I usually give it back tell her I have work that needed to be done so she needs to...

At this point I should have pictures of a completed or almost completed winter jacket. But as you can tell this is not the case. We are entering flu season and because my position in the hospital clinic I have direct contact with patients so I get the flu shot. Even when I did not have direct patient contact I got the flu shot. This is the first year that 3 weeks after getting the flu shot I got sick. I know I did not get sick from the shot I was infected because sick people do not stay at home when they are sick. One Clinical staff come in sick, stayed 1/2 day and then when home because she could not work she was so sick. Another Clinical staff came to work so sick she was walking into the walls. She had to be sent home. My supervisor came to work sick and worked for 2 days before someone told her please go home. My Coworker who shares my office space started getting sick on Tuesday, Wednesday she came to work but she said she was ok. Thursday she was having a hard time working...

Stop me if you heard this one before. I need stimulating conversation at work. Now that Betty is gone and has moved on to better things I am stuck trying to have conversation with my current coworker who rarely listen to what I am saying or just give me a blank stare. Here is an example: Me: Hey coworker, what do you think of purpose of philosophy could be? Coworker: silence The way our office is situated she sits behind me. So I turn around to make sure she heard me and she is reading her facebook page. Me: Hey! Coworker: Uh! What did you say? Me: Philosophy……..what do you think about it? Coworker: What? Yesterday Betty came for a visit and we had lunch! Which was so much fun to have my friend visiting. I had not seen her in a while! After she left everyone told me" Betty looks great!" and She did look great but after the 5th time I was tired of hearing how great Betty looked! She looked relaxed......She looked happy .......Her hair is beautiful.....She lost weight.......She looks great! So Betty the next time you come and visit you will probably be promoted to supermodel status.

I took my camera to work on the day that we were moving. And of course when you move you alway find stuff that you dont want. Well we found a flying roach. It was the biggest bug that I had ever seen personally. I took a picture of it and a picture of Jess who caught the thing and put it in a suction container. I wanted to show this picture to all see but when I was trying to set up the timer on my camera to take a picture so I could include myself in it I wiped clean my memory card. I really have to read more of the owners manual! Today we were all moved in and the doctors ready to see patient. We only encountered a few problems like missing phones or if you had a phone and someone tried to call you extention it would ring in a totally different part of the hospital. Missing computers or computers not linked to the correct domain. The exam room did not have baskets on the outside of the door for patient info so bins were place on the floor beside the door of the exam rooms for...

This morning was gray and rainy. I thought of what my sister and I would say looking out the picture window on a rainy day. Rain rain go away, come back some other day. We want to go out an play. Rain rain go away. The rain did not go away this morning and set the tone so that Today is one of those days. My headache today was purely due to stress. Our front desk person was by himself and when he was an hour behind checking patients in I go out to help him to find that one of the computer at the front desk was taken away! Part of the move to the new location this week. Since he was on the only computer at the front desk we, WC and me, had to then do the following go out into the waiting room, pick a name off the list, take them in the back to an office space and then check them in, bring them back to the waiting room so the nurse could then call the patient! After an hour of doing this my head was pounding because the waiting room was packed full with crying, laughing, screaming kids. P...

I recently took a position in our clinic as an OR Scheduler. Basically it's a data processing job. If you can count and you can type you can do this job. What you do in the morning is key into the computer all the reservations for surgery. They are called reservations because we are just reserving places on the schedule for them they are not guaranteed. If an emergent case come in you can lose your reservation. This is the reason everyone gets a call on the night before the surgery to find out what time they need to come in. Once clinic is open and the dr begans seeing patient they come to me to reserve a place for them. I have a list of the next available dates and times. As I give someone a reservation I change the amount of time left to reserve based on a the time it takes to complete a procedure. Even though it sound basic the challenging part come when there are more than just one Dr in clinic. It can be a little confusing but so far all errors have be caught before ...

I have been working on the quilt. I has been very hypnotic taking stitches out. So I have been very relaxed in working on it. Last night it was 2:00 in the morning when I stopped. This is what I am doing, I would remove one 5 block row from the quilt top. Then remove the quilt block from the bottom and take the sashing that is on the top and right side off of the block and make sure the rest is very straight. I did not want to remove all the sashing because some of the details on the quilt block could be lost. After removing the sashing from the top and the right side every thing gets ironed flat. I look it over very carefully to make sure all the stitching is well done. If stitches need to be redone then I take all the sashing off. After stitching then I put the sashing back on the left side and the bottom. I measure the block with the sashing on the left side and bottom,trim to size. Then I would do the some thing to the next quilt block. After trimming to size I would matc...

My mother taught me to crochet. Well she introduce me to crochet I liked it more than she did so I took it to heart. When I was a preteen you could always find me crocheting. Usually it was a scarf or afghan or shawls but rarely did I even attempt more than that. It was relaxing and kept me out of trouble. I stuck with crochet because it was one of the things that connected me with my mother. No TV or radio just me and her crocheting together and talking about whatever. She was young and in good health and no one would have known that she would died before reaching 45 year of age. In my family they always talk about the different afghan that I have crochet and gave away as present and they are always asking what they have to do to get a afghan from me. I have decided the make sure each family member get something that I crochet. My first project will be for me. That is really not selfish but I have given just about everything I crochet away. I have been working the list as I promised myself. The skirt is completed with enough fabric left to make a wrap. One dress is completed, well it just needs to be hemmed . I usually let the dress hang on a hanger overnight before I hem it. So tomorrow it will be completed. While doing a 10 minute clean up I found the drawing that I wanted to put on fabric. So I uploaded it to spoonflower and I'm awaiting the fat quarter that I order to see what it looks like. I have a very good feeling about this fabric design. I have been wanting this drawing on fabric so I could make a carry on bag and a garment bag. It is a drawing of me when I went to a Networking session at a local museum. I love this picture and could picture it on fabric and the luggage would be so different from everyone else it would never be confused. I had this idea at least 5 years ago. What if? What if we do something to create something better. What if you would try to solve a problem this way. When something is not definite you can you the phrase" What if." But if you do not use the phrase "What if "and everything you say gives the listener the impression that what you are saying is about to take place. Here is an example. Two of you are going to lose your job while one will remain here and become a part of the scheduling for children and adult department. If this same statement would be preceded by What if? What if two of you were to lose your job while one remain here and become a part of the scheduling for children and adult department? The first sentence gets the response of " Why would only one keep their job!" This cause the defensive mode to present itself as it should. I was at lunch and when I returned my coworker was not at her desk. That was not unsuall but all the secretaries were also not at their desk. I came into the office and log on to get the incoming calls. L, returns to her desk and tell me to log off. The director comes in behind her. " Do you want the good news or the bad news?" "Good news" " You all still have your jobs and the weather is beautiful today." at this point he proceeds to talk about how beautiful the day is. "Bad news" " No raises in June , increase in cost of benefits in January , there will be raises in January but not higher than 2%." I just look at him. He say " Hey Directors like R have to take a pay cut!" I don't care about R. No pay raise in June but and increase in cost of benefits is like a pay cut in January. Unless the increase in the cost of benefit is the same as the possible increase in pay of 2% in January. But you must do well on y...

Today we had the viewing at Spriggs and Watson Funeral home at 2:00 today. Tomorrow is the Funeral service at the same location at 1:00. After the service friends and family will be at my house until? Thursday I will be back to work. Life goes on and so does the everyday irritations. I would rather be at work than dealing with all the emotional up and downs of dealing with the death of a love one. After years of fooling myself that i had already morned her because she was so unresponsive to us when we visited her. But when i did visit her I got to see her face. I even talked to her. But now after tomorrow she will be buried and visiting her means I will see a tombstone instead of her face regardless of how unresponsive she was. I would rather see her face.

I don't ask direct questions, this is especially frustrating to those around me who need to know some information. I went into his office and made idle chit chat. Finally he said " Have you talk to S?" " I left messages on her phone yesterday and I doubt that I will hear from her. Do you have some information for me to relay?" " Still don't know anything yet." I just look at him and then I say " Well since you said everything will be happening on Friday I will take Thursday off so I can be here on Friday." He just looked at me as if nothing I just said registered with him. My friend whom I happen to work with told me that she thought I threw her under the bus to save my job. There are a lot of definition in the Urban dictionary to the saying "throw under a bus." This is one : to sacrifice some other person, usually one who is undeserving or at least vulnerable, to make personal gain. What the ?? I was shocked and hurt that this thought even came to her mind. Even more so because nothing I could say or do would change her mind. In order to do this I would have to have known something that she did not. I would have had to know that our jobs were in jeopardy. I found out this information at the same time as she did. Also I would have to figure out a way to make myself more valuable than she. How? She is the one with the friendship and trust of the director. I know I have not been blogging everyday. I also realize that I was to only blog about crafting and sewing but today I have something different that is on my mind. I work at a hospital,in the ENT pediatrics scheduling room. All day long I listen to parents make appointments for their children only to not arrive for the appointment for a variety of reasons, some good reasons, some very, very lame. For all my complaining about the job it is the easiest and least stressful job I have ever had until yesterday. There are upcoming layoff due to the budget cuts that need to be made. The first round of budget cuts in our area did not have any layoff because one of our doctor left our practice to set up his own in Florida, somewhere in the Keys. This second round of budget cuts will result in some layoffs. First we are told this will not effect us then we are told get your resume together. The three of us in this scheduling department are basically in jeopardy of losing our employment....

I arrived at S ( my friend) Apt around 1:30 which is a big difference from 10:00 am. All in attendance, my friend , her nephew and me. While he played games on the PS2 she showed me how to work the Cricut. Her husband makes wonderfully sweet Ice tea! This the best tool ever and the time just flew by. It was 4:00 when we clean up and look what I was able to finish with her help. This is my youngest sister and her hubby and the little designers This is my sister and her family who lives in Seattle. These had just been laid out so you can see what we did. They are to be on pillows which I have yet to make. They will be done by the end of the week and they will have eye and smiles by that time. S. gave me a wonderful idea for a quilt. I could make appliques to represent different family members and put then on a quilt. Then I thought about putting photos on the quilt as well. My friend , S is have a crafting party. Well it was not her intention to have a crafting party it sort of happen when we found out she won a Cricut on ebay. In her excitement she explained the great deal she was able to get on the price and the additional cartridges. She has been tracking the location as it travels its way closer and closer to PA. Expected arrival Monday. When she mention on her blog about making magnetic paper dolls for her niece. I thought great I want to do that also. And then I found out her sister was coming to her house on Monday Jan 19, 2009 which happens to be a day off for us I decided that I was coming over as well.
